At Primarily Japanese we’re very interested in the top five reasons that Japanese cars are so reliable, and we thought people in the Tucson and Foothills region might be, too. Our auto mechanics approach their auto repairs with quality in mind--an idea that is infused in Japanese manufacturing. Can you think back to a time when Japanese cars weren’t reliable? Now that so many people are driving Japanese cars, it’s hard to remember when they weren’t so common.
The first reason in the top five reasons that Japanese cars are so reliable is that reliability is seen as such a strength among the Japanese people. In Japan, when you say you’ll do something, you do it. Keeping your word is instilled into children at a very early age. At Primarily Japanese, we want the people in the Tucson and the Foothills area to know that we, too, stand behind our word.
Another of the top five reasons that Japanese cars are so reliable has to do with punctuality. Japanese people are known for being on time, and so Japanese cars must deliver, too. For instance, a train such as the Japanese Bullet Train can never be late. If the train is one minute late, it’s seen as shameful, and the conductor must issue an apology to everyone that has been inconvenienced on that train.
The “just-in-time” idea that W. Edwards Deming helped influence became widespread in Japanese car manufacturing. This is the third among the top five reasons that Japanese cars are so reliable. Deming’s quality influenced Japanese manufacturing to the point that Americans began to prefer Japanese transmissions over American transmissions. In Japan, an entire assembly line could be stopped in time to catch a mistake. This propelled Japanese car manufacturing into a winning scenario.
The fourth of the top five reasons Japanese cars are so reliable? It’s like that old Aretha Franklin song, “Respect.” Japanese people respect their customers. In this case, those customers are the people who drive the cars they manufacture. That same respect infuses the attitudes of the technicians at Primarily Japanese with every auto repair that we undertake.
Authority and respect for authority is the fifth reason for the top five reasons that Japanese cars are so reliable. There is a chain of command that reaches from the top to the bottom of the automotive manufacturing industry. Although it’s a generalization to say so, people understand their place and what they need to do to create reliability in the vehicles that they build. We at Primarily Japanese are vitally interested in creating the same atmosphere of reliability among our customers.
